Rasht

Rasht is a city in the north of Iran around 40 km from the shore of the Caspian Sea. Rasht is known in Iran for its beauty and its parks. It is the capital of the northern Iranian province of Guilan.

There are a few daily flights from Tehran. Most of them depart either early in the morning or late afternoon.

Rasht is well connected with Tehran and neighboring towns by bus:  Arjantin (Beyhaghi) Terminal (spelled as Terminal-e Arjantin or Terminal-e Beyhaghi), Argentine Square and Azadi (Gharb) Terminal, Azadi Square are the two main bus stations in Tehran which connect the capital to Rasht. There are several buses all day long and it costs only about 2 euros for normal buses to 4 euros for VIP bus services. Having an Iranian Bank card, it is possible to buy tickets online. You can also buy bus tickets inside two bus terminals of Tehran and bus terminals of other cities or buy it from travel agencies inside the cities. The journey usually takes 5 hours.

There are daily train departures from Tehran to Rasht, leave Tehran at 07:45 and arrive Rasht in 13:10. The non-reduced ticket price costs 430,000 Rials (2 euros 50 cents in May 2019) and can be bought either online from the Iranian railway website or in travel agencies. The railway passes through Alborz mountains and then Sefidrood river valey and stops in Karaj and Qazvin on its way to Rasht.

Get around

  • The Shahrdari is Rasht's most identifiable landmark, its colonial style tempered by a token mini-dome topping a distinctive whitewashed tower. It looks great when floodlit at night.
  • Rasht Museum is small, but well presented in a 1930s house. Its mannequin displays illustrate Gilaki lifestyle, amid a selection of 3000-year-old terracotta riton drinking horns in the shape of bulls, rams and deer. Supping from such vessels supposedly endowed the drinker with the powers and skills of the animal depicted.
  • Golsar is a high-class district with many shops, restaurants, boutiques, and coffee-shops, and is a very popular neighborhood for teenagers and young adults to meet and socialize with peers, particularly on Thursday and Friday nights. Shahre-yaran urban district
  • Traditional Bazaar
  • The excellent Gilan Rural Heritage Museum is 18 km south of Rasht (2 km off the Qazvin highway). Six full homesteads complete with rice barns are already ‘active' in 150 ha of woodland. On open days, local crafts (thatching, mat-making, cloth-weaving) are displayed and there are tight-rope walking mini-shows.
  • Mirza Kouchak Khan Tomb
  • Danaye Ali Tomb is topped with a faceted pyramid of blue tiling.
